Song mood: Times Like These by the Foo Fighters.

Tonight, I got some writing done.  The next scene for my serial fantasy novel.  Probably not what I wanted to write, but it was something. Tomorrow I will do a quick edit.

I wanted to write a scene about Phoebe, Inspector Trevor’s future wife.  I am hoping that my fictional character will get me through until I am able to find a woman who can see me.  So Phoebe is going to be fun, light hearted and kind.  I’m going to tweak scene.  Where she’s at the crime scene, Inspector Trevor comes on scene and she’s waving her hands saying yoohoo.  And the detective is shaking his head.  Then he tries to get past before any of his men see him, because he has a reputation of a hard nosed copper to keep.  And he fails, she talks to him like he’s a good dog and his men laugh at him.

My uncle is coming to town this weekend.  And if it weren’t for that, I would have made a small trip to KC.  I would have made my own little writer’s retreat where I wrote the whole day Saturday and eat only pizza.  But my uncle is coming and I want to see him.  I haven’t seen him in over a year.

Thursdays, I hang out at the cigar shop with my mystery writer friend.  I enjoy my talks with him while he is doing his photography work.  We talked about dream homes and vacations.  My dream home is a tiny house in the middle of a forest in the Cascade mountains.  Just far enough away from people but close enough to a town where I can get supplies when needed.  I would have a jeep to get me around.

I miss talking with friends.  This last year was rough, because I didn’t have people who wanted to talk with me.  Now I have at least one friend who will talk with me, and it’s great.

In June my writer’s group will get back together.  It will be shorter meetings, but meetings none the less.  I hope they aren’t on Sunday, because that’s family day.  I would have miss them.  This weekend, I will write a short story so that I have something to read at the meetings.  I will only workshop short stories.  Because the workshop, for me is something to learn from.  Trying to workshop a novel at 5 pages a week will take forever.  A short story, what you learn from the short story can be applied to the novel.  You can workshop many different types of short stories and learn a whole lot more.  Anyway.

The short story will be about a diabetic man in the zombie apocalypse who has just run out of insulin and has to make a trip to the hospital that is three miles down the road.

I’m still sore from running yesterday. Didn’t do much exercising today.  New target weight will be 142.  I want to look good this summer.

Now, one more day of work and I’ll shift into weekend mode.

Song mood: Mysterious Ways by U2. Currently I’m listening to The Ruin by Dervla McTiernan.  I’ve listened to a couple of novellas that she wrote where her detective Cormac Reilly briefly shows up in and liked them.  This is the first book with her star detective.  Between McTiernan and Trevor on who writes better suspense, I would say hands down McTiernan.   A person who writes mysteries as a genre follow a set of conventions so that the reader isn’t in a state of confusion.  One great example is putting dates before each section or series of sections.  Literary writers don’t follow conventions and the confusion at times come from the writing.  Where I say, let the characters mislead the reader not the writing itself. I am enjoying The Ruin .  It’s nice to get back to a solid mystery. I continue to walk at the lake.  Although, it’s a modified path where I get around 2.5 miles instead 4 miles.  I still need to figure out what to do for exercise in the winter.  I want to get a rowing m

Anticipated Books of 2021

For me, the two most anticipated books are both by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.  The first one is Certain Dark Things to be released 7 September and the second is Velvet is the Night to be released 17 August.  Both are after my birthday so they can’t be my birthday book.  Which is too bad.  Garcia proved she could very write well with Mexican Gothic .  I’m inclined to believe she is the best writer out there. Currently I’m listening to Untamed Shores , Garcia’s thriller that was released last year.  It is similar to Mexican Gothic except without the elements of horror. Speaking of the birthday book, I finally chose the one.  And this time there will be no hiccups.  This year’s birthday book will be: The Album of Dr. Moreau by Daryl Gregory.  The book is set to be released on 18 May.  Three months before my birthday and if the book is to be pushed out, I think it would about a month or so.  It’s a murder mystery that involves a boy band formed by the animal people from The Island of Doctor
