Song mood: Wicked Games by Chris Isaak.

I did a brainstorming session last night, where I wasn’t feeling it. Which lead to an hour of sitting in bed and doing nothing. I go through these periods where I don’t think I can write, or do anything at all. It was a rough hour or two on the darker path. The moment passes.

Now I’m just going through the motions of writing. Writing this blog. What I did do was write things I noticed I could do. Ask myself questions about this story. Ask questions about other stories.

Let’s take The Hand by Georges Simenon, there was a portion of the story I wasn’t satisfied with. What’s to stop me from writing a story of what I thought it should be. You can change the characters but put them in the same situation. The story starts with a party. Then there’s a storm. After the storm, a body is found. Instead of having a guy go into mental decline, we can have the guy try to figure out who done it before anyone else dies.

I remembered my dream this morning. It was a good thing. I mean, I was getting worried about not remembering dreams. I look for the dreams to show me the way to go. If I have a dream about dating someone, I ask that person out. No matter what the outcome is. Because it was in a dream. Of course, if I was married, I wouldn’t ask a different person out and would say maybe in the next life.

The dream I had this morning was a bit scary. I was walking around the mall with the sheriff, who was played by Ciarán Hinds. He, as the sheriff, was beating people to death. So this tells me, I should continue with my mystery, and maybe have a bad copper in the story.

Over the next few weeks, I think I will boost the B vitamins so that I have a greater chance of remembering my dreams. B vitamins support the nervous system. Ie. the system that generates the dreams. Most people believe dreams are in real time, when most likely they happen in a fraction of second when your nerves engage your brain to wake up. But the feeling is that they have gone on forever, or however long they lasted.

Currently listening to Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. It’s a vampire story. I was happy about that. Her vampire story is pretty cool. It happens in an alternate Mexico City where vampires roam the world. She goes into the different types of vampires.

Tomorrow, I leave for Fargo. My mum and I will hang out in my hometown on her birthday, so we will hanging out with uncles and anyone else in the area. I will make smaller goals for writing each day. I will look up ghost stories to download on Audible for driving. It will be an interesting weekend.

Song mood: Mysterious Ways by U2. Currently I’m listening to The Ruin by Dervla McTiernan.  I’ve listened to a couple of novellas that she wrote where her detective Cormac Reilly briefly shows up in and liked them.  This is the first book with her star detective.  Between McTiernan and Trevor on who writes better suspense, I would say hands down McTiernan.   A person who writes mysteries as a genre follow a set of conventions so that the reader isn’t in a state of confusion.  One great example is putting dates before each section or series of sections.  Literary writers don’t follow conventions and the confusion at times come from the writing.  Where I say, let the characters mislead the reader not the writing itself. I am enjoying The Ruin .  It’s nice to get back to a solid mystery. I continue to walk at the lake.  Although, it’s a modified path where I get around 2.5 miles instead 4 miles.  I still need to figure out what to do for exercise in the winter.  I want to get a rowing m

Anticipated Books of 2021

For me, the two most anticipated books are both by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.  The first one is Certain Dark Things to be released 7 September and the second is Velvet is the Night to be released 17 August.  Both are after my birthday so they can’t be my birthday book.  Which is too bad.  Garcia proved she could very write well with Mexican Gothic .  I’m inclined to believe she is the best writer out there. Currently I’m listening to Untamed Shores , Garcia’s thriller that was released last year.  It is similar to Mexican Gothic except without the elements of horror. Speaking of the birthday book, I finally chose the one.  And this time there will be no hiccups.  This year’s birthday book will be: The Album of Dr. Moreau by Daryl Gregory.  The book is set to be released on 18 May.  Three months before my birthday and if the book is to be pushed out, I think it would about a month or so.  It’s a murder mystery that involves a boy band formed by the animal people from The Island of Doctor
