Song mood: You and Me by Lifehouse.

Tomorrow is going to be rough. I decided that caffeine is the enemy. So tomorrow, I will reduce the amount of coffee that I drink. And in it’s place will be tea. I think caffeine boasts my anxiety, so I will reduce the amount that I consume. Only when I do that, the headaches begin. One time I quit drinking coffee altogether and had a headache for six days straight.

I’m halfway through The October Country by Ray Bradbury. Once that is done, I think I will re-listen to Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. It’s one of my favorites. Part fantasy, part mystery and part horror all rolled into one. Gideon has to be one of the funniest character ever and yet pulls on the heart strings towards the end. That will get through to November.

Then, I’m going to switch things up a little. Sometimes I like to take a break from myself so to speak. So, after Gideon, I will listen to Uglies by Scott Westerfeld.

Also in this effort to take a break from myself, I have added The Barren Grounds by David A. Robertson to my kindle.

My goal before the end of the year is to finish a mystery. Hopefully within a day or two I will finish planning it.

Then my other project is to write down and outline all these other books I thought of on index cards. Many are fantasy. That way, I can work on mysteries, but have basic outlines for my fantasy works. If I get to them, great. If I don’t, they can be passed on other writers who need something to write. My works can live on, even if I don’t get to them because I want to focus on mysteries.

I watched the Bond movie No Time To Die and enjoyed it. I was a bit worried about the length of the movie, but it was a solid story line. Like Spectre should have been cut by half an hour to 45 minutes. But this last Bond movie had a well written story. And I hate to say it, I cried at the end. It will tie with Skyfall for best Bond movie.

I think will start watching some anime films. There were two that I always wanted to watch: Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle. The last anime movie I watched was Cowboy Bebop the movie, in which I didn’t watch the series. The last anime series I watched was Samurai Seven season one. I used anime to make my Japanese better. When I moved to Korea, I kind of stopped watching anime. Mainly because I stopped learning Japanese and started learning Korean.

And when I start learning French again, there are a lot of French movies and TV shows on Netflix.

The rest of the week will be about plotting out the mystery. Then I will do low impact weight lifting to go along with my tai chi and walking. I will probably drink more water as I struggle with a lack of caffeine.

Song mood: Mysterious Ways by U2. Currently I’m listening to The Ruin by Dervla McTiernan.  I’ve listened to a couple of novellas that she wrote where her detective Cormac Reilly briefly shows up in and liked them.  This is the first book with her star detective.  Between McTiernan and Trevor on who writes better suspense, I would say hands down McTiernan.   A person who writes mysteries as a genre follow a set of conventions so that the reader isn’t in a state of confusion.  One great example is putting dates before each section or series of sections.  Literary writers don’t follow conventions and the confusion at times come from the writing.  Where I say, let the characters mislead the reader not the writing itself. I am enjoying The Ruin .  It’s nice to get back to a solid mystery. I continue to walk at the lake.  Although, it’s a modified path where I get around 2.5 miles instead 4 miles.  I still need to figure out what to do for exercise in the winter.  I want to get a rowing m

Anticipated Books of 2021

For me, the two most anticipated books are both by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.  The first one is Certain Dark Things to be released 7 September and the second is Velvet is the Night to be released 17 August.  Both are after my birthday so they can’t be my birthday book.  Which is too bad.  Garcia proved she could very write well with Mexican Gothic .  I’m inclined to believe she is the best writer out there. Currently I’m listening to Untamed Shores , Garcia’s thriller that was released last year.  It is similar to Mexican Gothic except without the elements of horror. Speaking of the birthday book, I finally chose the one.  And this time there will be no hiccups.  This year’s birthday book will be: The Album of Dr. Moreau by Daryl Gregory.  The book is set to be released on 18 May.  Three months before my birthday and if the book is to be pushed out, I think it would about a month or so.  It’s a murder mystery that involves a boy band formed by the animal people from The Island of Doctor
