Song mood: Zoo Station by U2.

I am always looking for a way to reinvent myself. It’s good to hang out with my best friend from college.  It’s just good to talk with him.

We were talking about this video game that he liked called Inscryption. It sounded interesting, though I don’t have much time for games. I mean, there is my writing and then tai chi and other exercises. But the story line for the game sounds interesting. A little gruesome, maybe some good ideas for a horror story.

In the morning, we are the only ones at the tea shop. I imagine the server hears a lot of interesting conversation through out the day. I imagine that she knows that I am crushing on someone online. That I want to go to Australia and that I write mysteries.

Books read so far this year:

Silverview by John Le Carré. (Listened)

Sleep No More by PD James.

Silverview, if I had never read a John Le Carré book, would have been a book that I put down and didn’t pick up again. But since I knew his style, I continued listening. He writes things that are so mysterious and at the same time mundane, that it’s tough finish some of his books. There was little foreshadowing as to what was really going on the story.

Sleep No More was highly enjoyable. Though, these were mysteries, it was no mystery what the story was about. I will most definitely give Cover Her Face another chance. It’s the first Inspector Dalgliesh novel.

Currently reading:

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson.

What I like about Guide is the format of the book. It’s part narrative, part journal, and part interview. I think that it would make the book a bit easier to write. Mainly because you are writing short concise sections.

What I will probably do is continue writing my Inspector Trevor novel while I brainstorm other stories. So that when I finish writing the mystery story, I will have a lot of other stories plotted out and ready to go.

For dance moves, the audio on the video I was using to learn was dropped. I could just watch the video and learn the moves. Or, I can learn a lot of basic dance moves and just scroll through songs that I can use to make the video that would best match the moves.

Last night I watched Black Widow. I liked it, but I can’t put my finger on why, it didn’t excite me. It’s most comparable to The Winter Soldier, which I really liked. In the end, it reminded me of comic book. I know that not all comic books will be awesome.

Today, I will work on my mystery. I will work on my Tai Chi. I’m learning Chen style 8 form. Tonight, I will probably watch Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries.

Song mood: Mysterious Ways by U2. Currently I’m listening to The Ruin by Dervla McTiernan.  I’ve listened to a couple of novellas that she wrote where her detective Cormac Reilly briefly shows up in and liked them.  This is the first book with her star detective.  Between McTiernan and Trevor on who writes better suspense, I would say hands down McTiernan.   A person who writes mysteries as a genre follow a set of conventions so that the reader isn’t in a state of confusion.  One great example is putting dates before each section or series of sections.  Literary writers don’t follow conventions and the confusion at times come from the writing.  Where I say, let the characters mislead the reader not the writing itself. I am enjoying The Ruin .  It’s nice to get back to a solid mystery. I continue to walk at the lake.  Although, it’s a modified path where I get around 2.5 miles instead 4 miles.  I still need to figure out what to do for exercise in the winter.  I want to get a rowing m

Song mood: In Too Deep by Genesis. It’s been an Inspector Morse weekend.  I’m halfway through the original series.  I think I came upon an understanding.  If the show follows the book closely, it will say based on the book.  After the second season, the shows stopped following the books closely and then it says based off the characters.  Some of them say based off an idea by the author, which would indicate that the author collaborated with the producers for the screenplay. The other thing that I realized is that if they are going to follow the series, Chief Inspector Thursday won’t be in the new show for much longer.  Which this last season hinted at. I expect to work on my own mystery this week.  It happens in Sandy, England.  My Inspector Trevor is surnamed after the Irish author, William Trevor.   Trevor is one of the biggest names in literature.  Or he was when I attended college for Creative Writing.  I’ve read a few of his short stories.  I think I should listen to a fe
